I am a Master’s student in Biophysics at Goethe University Frankfurt, specialising in cryo-electron tomography. My interest lies at the intersection of the sample and the algorithm, and I entered the field of computational science through the wet lab rather than around it.
During my Bachelor’s degree and as a research assistant, I expressed and purified proteins, prepared grids by plunge freezing and worked with single-particle and tomographic data using cryoSPARC, RELION, Amira and ChimeraX in the group of Prof. Achilleas Frangakis at the Buchmann Institute for Molecular Life Sciences. I also contributed to the development of ArtiaX, a ChimeraX plugin for visualising and editing particle lists in tomograms, in the same group (https://doi.org/10.1002/pro.4472).
This experience has shaped my current interests: I am not just interested in running a processing pipeline, but also in exploring the potential of the data to provide valuable insights.
