Dr. Sonja Welsch
Head of Electron Microscopy FacilitySonja is the Head of the MPI EM facility since January 2020. She is a cell biologist and virologist with a long-standing background in electron tomography of cellular samples, correlative light- and electron microscopy and EM sample preparation techniques – but can also get enthusiastic about single-particle cryoEM breakthroughs. Through her professional experience outside academia, Sonja has also become an expert in managing the needs and expectations of large and diverse user groups, training and supporting EM users at all experience levels and creating user training documentation.
