iMOL Research Training Extended by DFG

June 24, 2025

The interdisciplinary Research Training Group Interfacing Image Analysis and Molecular Life Science (iMOL) at Goethe University Frankfurt has received approval from the German Research Foundation (DFG) to continue its work.

Since 2020, iMOL has provided cutting-edge training for young scientists working at the interface of the life sciences and computer science. The program addresses the growing need for expertise in analyzing highly complex image data generated by modern microscopy. Recent advances in imaging techniques, such as light and electron microscopy, and image analysis powered by artificial neural networks have revolutionized the field. These developments produce data of unprecedented quality and resolution, offering new insights into the molecular machinery of life.

The program brings together researchers from Goethe University, the Frankfurt Institute for Advanced Studies (FIAS), and the Max Planck Institute of Biophysics. From our Institute, group leaders Beata Turoňová (Computational Life Sciences) and Florian Wilfling (Mechanisms of Cellular Quality Control) are involved in training the next generation of interdisciplinary scientists.
